Student Art Show Selection : Andrew Jones : Trepidation : inkjet print

In the world as it is now everything that is sold/ directed to a potential customer/ viewer is done so through some sort of sexual connotation. From commercials, ads, billboards, or through high status figures such as celebrities we are sold based on the procreative or "fleshy" associations derived from the human body. It is now that we are taught to go after what is wanted or lusted.
This image is labeled Trepidation , which gives it all the more idea of it being a somewhat agitated or alarming photo. This print captured my interest solely on the positioning of the photo as well as the subjects depicted. The main subject in the image is supposedly seen as a female being unjustifiably touched in a manner she chooses not to be. As she pulls her dress down, to not be further exposed to the public eye, the second figure is pressing/sliding his hand upward to expose her. This alone signifies the violation of personal space as well as respect. Also, with the angle of the camera, it is placed in a central area of the main figure that is personal. An area that to most women is sacred, so this as well is a violation of personal space.
The of this image is known all to well to the public because it is something that happens on a general basis. Whether it is in this manner might not be but it shows how often and how vulgar the violation of ones own space can be. Not just pertaining to women but men as well.
The emotional response i received was anger at first because being a woman we are often tested by the opposite sex in a sexual degrading way.
As far as the border of the image and the color choice I do not know exactly how it correlates but I interpret it as this somewhat looking like an aged image to signify this type of behavior has been going on for years on end and will continue until the idea of being sexually explicit changes.
